"An eight-shot lead going into the final round made me feel pretty comfortable, and I just went out there and took care of business," Stenson said after receiving the $1.2 million winner's check.
Stenson’s performance on the greens was particularly impressive during the week, not only during his opening round of 63 but during a critical 3rd round when his ball striking was little off.
On the Saturday evening Stenson reflected “I've probably had rounds where my ball-striking was better but I was not able to convert. It was not my absolute best, but I took care of my chances which meant my scoring was very, very good."
The good form on the greens reflects the work Stenson has been doing with putting coach Phil Kenyon and shows the value specialists putting instruction can have.
Stenson’s win comes a week after representing Sweden, with partner Robert Karlsson, to victory in the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup. Sweden came from behind on the Sunday for a three-stroke victory in the, shooting a remarkable 9-under 63 to overtake third-round co-leaders Spain and Australia.
