Congratulations to pupil Branden Grace in winning the Vodacom Origins of Golf Final and recording his third Sunshine Tour victory of his career.
Grace is currently enjoying the best golf season of his career. Earlier this year, he won the European Tour’s Joburg Open in January.
The very next week witnessed him record the second European Tour victory of his career at the Volvo Golf Champions.
Two months later, the world of golf once again saw the South African add another title to his resume, when he defeated Nicolas Colsaerts with a three-stroke margin at the Volvo China Open.
This week, at The Links Fancourt, Grace got off to a brilliant start and surged into the lead with a four-under par opening-round score.
On day two, he maintained his grip on top of the leaderboard, with a five-under par overall score.
Entering the final round on Friday, he planned not to play defensively. Throughout the day, the spectators on the course witnessed him attack the pins and create birdie chances.
At the end of the day, he was holding his scorecard with six birdies on it, against a lone bogey for a five-under par 68. His final score at the end of the tournament was a 10-under par 209, three strokes better than Allan Versfeld.
Versfeld was among the three players who succeeded in breaking the par mark in the tournament. According to Grace, the course conditions were really tough, especially when the winds were blowing strongly.
“This was one of the toughest days I have played on The Links,” Grace said. “The wind was brutal, and when the rain came, it became extra tough. But being a member here just helped a little bit when it really counted”.
He added, “I really concentrated on keeping my cool in the wind and the strategy paid off when I didn’t drop any shots coming home. The course was really tough. ... So I’m pleased I played the way I did after a few weeks off from golf”.
He now plans to return to the European Tour and participate in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, scheduled next week.
