The BMW open was in Cologne this week, not the venue of recent years, but a venue the tour is familiar with as The Gut Larchenhof course has held the Linde German Masters on many occasions.
Back out on tour after a few weeks off, on the Tuesday I met early with Michael Hoey. Last week, on Mike’s week off, I had been down to the Wisley Golf Club to do some work with him. We spent the Tuesday morning keeping an eye on the things we had indentified last week.
In the afternoon I walked the course with Chris Wood and David Horsey. The course normally has excellent greens, and although they weren’t horrendous this week they were not up to the standards of previous years. However like every other week somebody will be holing putts.
The course layout however is excellent, the course has some great holes. The rough was pretty thick and well graded, even if the fairways are a little generous in parts. If the weather is good I would expect the scoring to be good.
On the Wednesday I had Thomas Bjorn, David Horsey and Ross Fisher in the pro am so I walked the course once again this time in the pouring rain. Ross has been playing well recently and more importantly putting well. In Wales and Sweden Ross finished 2nd and 6th respectively in the putting stats which was a nice reward for the work Ross has put in recently on his putting.
After drying myself off in the afternoon I spent some time with Chris Wood on the practice putting green working with him on his green reading and his alignment. Chris has been working really hard on his game recently and a big week is around the corner I feel. Next week I’m at the Irish Open at the famous Portrush Links, Should be fun.
