John Howells is a highly respected PGA Professional with over 15 years of elite coaching experience who leads the Phil Kenyon Putting team at the world-class Brocket Hall facility
John’s coaching journey began at the prestigious Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, where he realized at just 19 that his true calling was in coaching. After completing his PGA training there, he progressed to become Senior Instructor at the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Dubai, where he coached from 2012–2018. During this time, John worked with players from around the world, developing a sharp eye for detail and an adaptable coaching style grounded in biomechanics, skill acquisition, and elite performance environments.
In 2019, John returned to the UK to become Head Professional at JCB Golf & Country Club, where he played a central role in launching and establishing one of the country’s most exclusive golf venues. His leadership at JCB helped shape a performance-driven culture, particularly in short game and putting development.
Although John has coached all areas of the game since 2010, his deep passion for putting was ignited in 2015 after completing the Phil Kenyon Certified Instructor programme with Phil in Shanghai, China.
Since then, John has immersed himself in the study of putting performance—integrating tour-proven principles with technology like SAM PuttLab, Capto Golf, Puttview technology, and high-speed video.
John has worked with players at every level, from junior champions to elite amateurs and professional golfers. He has coached multiple tour players on putting, including DP World Tour winner Sam Horsfield, and continues to enjoy working with committed club players who value detail, feedback, and results. In 2024, John was recognised as the Midland PGA Coach of the Year, reflecting his impact and commitment to continuous coaching excellence.
John is proud to part of the Phil Kenyon Putting team and excited to contribute to a world-renowned group of specialists, with the shared mission of pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in putting performance.
